allergy shots =better asthma control?

I was wondering what experiences you all have had with allergy shots and if they helped you with asthma control? I'm scheduled to start allergy shots newxt week, i'm kinda scared they will bring on an asthma attack but i'm trying not to worry to much about it because i think it might make it worse for me. i'm really hoping that these shots will help control my symptoms better, i'm on all kinda of meds for allergy and asthma and none really seem to do all that much...it's better than it was a year ago but i still need my inhaler nearly everyday but have no symptoms at night since i got an air purifier and put it in my bedroom...it runs 24/7 and if i can't breathe i go there for 15 minuted or so and i can breathe. i have few to no problems as long as i'm inside my house but once i go out to start my day my numbers go from green to yellow really fast, i have 14 things that trigger my allergies and asthma and have pretty much resigned myself to doing my rescue inhaler at least 2x a week!!! I seem to have good days and bad days that turn into worse days when i get sick. my doctor(s) seem to think everything is fine because my am/pm peak flows are green but the time between OH MY GOD!!!! I so much want to be active again about 1/2 the time i can't exercise and when i do i can't do even a fraction of what i could before the asthma...sorry i'm rambling i'm just REALLY frustrated...what do you think???

I have been on allergy shots for two years now. They have helped my allergies tremendously! In the beginning, they also helped my asthma. Even after 2 years of shots, my IgE levels are still high. My asthma has become out of control. I use my rescue inhaler 5-6 days a week, 2-3 times a day. Now they are thinking about starting xolair.

If your allergies are what sets off your asthma...then this just might be what helps you keep your asthma under control. It does take a few months or more to start to see any effects from the shots. I used to have itchy, watery eyes and runny nose with sneezing around dust. Now, I don't see those symptoms anymore.


The shots are really not that bad. It is a bit scary in the beginning until you know how your body will react. If it causes problems for your asthma, they will most likely just lower the dose and start at a slower rate until your body gets used to the shots.

thanks robin- when i'm exposed to a trigger dust or whatever years ago i used to sneeze and have itchy eyes but now i cough wheeze and have difficulty breathing and end up using my rescue inhaler. gosh, i already use my inhaler 1-3 times a day /week depending on trigger exposure. this sounds a little scarry to me - trying to remain calm untili see first hand if it effects my asthma

I just had my first allergy shot...too early to tell. I had a mild chest tightness but it may have been anxiety or the warm weather. The nurse says I can have these shots twice weekly but my doctor (allergy) says to do it once weekly so I'm sticking to that. I know it will take me longer but I'm fearful of reactions. I've got enough to contend with.

I tried allergy shots and after 1/2 of the first bottle of serum I got serum poisioning.I went bac after a few months and tried it again and the same thing happened.So the shots are not for me.But good luck to you on the shots I hope they work good for you.

I went to my Asthma doctor to see if that's what I needed was shot..I had the skin test that they give you ,but I really didn't have a side effects..she wanted to give me they shot test which is alittle diffrent,but she said at the time my Asthma was so out of control,she wanted to try and get in under control first....That's when I had insurance..I havent been back since,but my Asthma is so crazy now I might have to go and see her...Good luck on your shots...

From what I've heard, allergy shots work for a lot of people with asthma. I've never tried them myself as my allergies are seldom very serious. I usually get a runny nose and itchy eyes around spring time but a Claritin is enough to make it all go away. If you're looking for a good Allergist in Santa Barbara, CA Dr. Tubiolo is the best. He's very knowlegeable and takes good care of his patients. A lot of my friends see him for their asthma and allergies.

its been almost 2 yrs since starting allergy shots and yes my allergies have improved somewhat but my problem seems to be that this only takes carte of 5 of the 18 things that trigger asthma attacks for me... ive just about decided that this is about as good as it;s going to get... im still on 5 meds for my asthma including duoneb 3x a day!!!!! i still have days even now in april that i cant go outside not so much bceause of the high or very high tree pollen because it didnt really bother me(just an occassional sniffle and some really mild congestion) but i discovered it was that coupled with yellow air quality that had me doing 6 puffs of my inhaler and when that did nothing i hit the duoneb.... i seriously think thats just how its going to be from now on....

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
