Asthma Support Group
Asthma is a disease of the human respiratory system where the airways narrow, often in response to a "trigger" such as exposure to an allergen, cold air, exercise, or emotional stress. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, which respond to bronchodilators.
Sure hope this helps you. Keep us posted. Hugs Ohana
I think allergens and the irritations they cause can be cumulative, too. I am allergic to cats but tolerated my husband's (and a stray we took in) for 17 years because I loved them and the asthma "wasn't so bad." I used to use my Proventil once a week, but by the time I came down with acute bronchitis, I was using it several times a day and it wasn't doing much good.
I'm on more medication than I'd like too (Symbicort and Singulair), so I asked my doctor to prescribe the Immunocap test so that we could identify any environmental allergens that could be reduced or eliminated. We're supposed to get the results this week.
Sorry I can't be more specific -- these are the things my allergist told me. Feel better!
I also think that asthmatics are more sensitive to stress and get tired. It depends on many factors at work here and would need a lot longer to explain. If you can get to feeling and in control of your life then you are winning the battle - otherwise its tough.
Its hard because if you are the only asthmatic in your family you have no one who understands how bad it can get. That is why web sotes like this are excellent in helping communication between fellow sufferers.
Good luck in your life.
