I've had this only once while on symbicort, prednisone, and antibiotics all at once. Yes, it does suck. What are you using for treatment? I used Nystatin "swish and swallow" -- but the nurse instructed me to swish, gargle and spit (boy, you're really living when you get to gargle Nystatin!)

Thrush does take some time to go away, but don't worry, it will. Maybe you can try the Advair hfa version after you've recovered? When I use symbicort now I rinse and gargle twice and immediately brush my teeth after, and haven't had any problem since.

Thanks for your replies. I have been on Nystatin four times a day for two weeks and also Diflucan. The normal dose for Diflucan is take two the first day and then one for 6days. It wasn't any better so they took me off the advair and started the process over again and then after 4 days I wasn't any better so then they upped my prescription to take 2 pills per day for 5 days and it's still here all the way to the tip of my tongue. I called my doctor and told him it wasn't better so now I am taking Mycelex 5 times a day for 10 days.

BTW I was on Advair hfa and I did rinse my mouth out.

Rinsing and still thrush -- that is frustrating. I don't know that much about diet, but when I was recovering I tried to avoid foods that foster yeast growth -- in particular, sweet foods, aged cheese, and wheat products. I don't know if it made a difference, but I read about an anti-candidiasis diet in a number of places.

hmm I will try that. I eat lots of fruits and vegitables. So I will try to eat less fruits. I already don't eat wheat products so guess I will try to eliminate that stuff and see if it will go away! thanks for the info!

OMG so frustrated still have the thrush. Has anyone ever had this for over 3 wks? So frustrated feels like it is never going away!

I've had thrush off and on for many years. The best way that has helped me has been to avoid fruit completely, mushrooms, cheese, yeast, vinager, etc. I filled up with protein and 20 grams of carbohydrates per meal. At the same time take Probiotics between meals as well as Nystatin. The problem is in our gut not just in our mouths. Once you notice that you don't have the thrush then start introducing the different foods one by one to make sure you don't allow the thrush to take over again. Continue on Probiotics. It works for me. Antibiotics causes our gut to develop Candida (in the stomach). One of the things that has helped me as well is building up my immune system by taking Zinc everyday. Not the kind for a sore throat, instead buy the supplement.

I've had thrush, this time, since July. I've done several rounds of nystatin and a different, stronger drug too. The thrush comes back after I finish the meds - every time. I've been soaking my toothbrush in peroxide, as I read that you can reinfect yourself with a contaminated toothbrush. And I started gargling with the peroxide and it is helping. The thrush is going away. I use 3% hydrogen peroxide and water it down a bit. It's gross, because it foams and I have to keep spitting it out for about 5 minutes after I use it, but it's better than having thrush and I don't need a prescription for it.
