Asthma Support Group
Asthma is a disease of the human respiratory system where the airways narrow, often in response to a "trigger" such as exposure to an allergen, cold air, exercise, or emotional stress. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, which respond to bronchodilators.
I have had my rib cage hurt so bad before I though I was having a heart attack. It turned out to be that my rib cartilage actually stays inflammed for some reason. I pretty much ignore it now, but just to be safe I would check in with a medical professional. I also wanted to say that when I had a gallbladder attack and had to have mine removed it felt like asthma to me. Like my entire rib cage was being squeezed into a corset. So another good reason just to get evaluated.
I messed up that link =) lol
Another positive development is after seeing the ent doctor and having x-rays and a scope of my sinuses I was told that
my sinuses and vocal chords are normal. She told me that a mass sometimes develops on the vocal chords but fortunately I was clear.(I wonder why
my pulmonary doctor didn't tell me what I was being checked for? I'll have to ask him next time.)
From your responses I see that asthma is pretty serious.(DUH!) I know that my activities are still limited but I'm working on it.
Again thanks for all the input.

Perhaps there is something else going on. this can't be normal, can it?
I do plan to discuss this at my next appointment with my pulmonologist.
I rememeber one time, quite a while ago, ago coughing so hard & so much that,I had the same feeling, you are talking about,so I went to sse the doctor & he told me he,actually had a patient who had broke her rib from coughing so hard.
I was lucky my were only bruised, but it sure did hurt.
Sincerely,
