Well it's that time of year. It seems as if many in our community are dealing with respiratory infections...and of course it is complicated by our asthma. I am no different. I have just gotten over a URI following a course of antibiotics.
However I was also put on 4 weeks of prednisone ,on a tapered schedule, to better control my asthma which had kicked up with the URI.
I still have 8 days to go on the pred taper and it can't get here too soon. This time around it has me on a roller coaster physically. Some days I feel great and energetic and on others I am simply exhausted and my ribs and chest are very sore. It will be good to get back to an even keel.

Oh well, jut eight more days.

Tom,

Hang in there. You're already got most of it behind you with only a few days left to go.

I was also on 3 weeks of pred from mid-January through the start of February. Til they come up with an alternative anti-inflammatory, there is nothing else.

But new drugs are on the way very shortly, so cheer up! :-)

Thought I would die when I was taking that prednisone. Should have tapered it like I thought I should instead of following the asshole doctors order and just stopping it. I was on 20 mg twice a day. I crashed when I abruptly stopped it. Live and learn trust your instincts and your own good judgment. sounds like you are almost finished with the pred, so hang in there

tom,thank goodness for you it's almost over..hang in there! I know from watching my son on pred that it can literally make a persons personality change overnight..it's kind of scary that something that is so good for asthma is so bad for the rest of your body! God is looking out for you, remember that! :)

I absolutely hate pred. I am on it now and have used it over the years. It is very nasty tasting (even in pill form) and has a wide range of side effects that are most times unpleasant. Hang in there~!

I saw the pulmonologist today. I am still a bit shaky and coughing so my pred has been extended for another week. Oh well, at least it's cheap.
I was changed to xopenox(sp?) from albuterol to help control the elevated pulse rate and the jitters.
I told the doc that my wife really didn't like me on pred and she replied "Does she like you breathing?" (I answered "mostof the time")
It is a necessary evil, I guess. A real mixed blessing.
