Asthma is a disease of the human respiratory system where the airways narrow, often in response to a "trigger" such as exposure to an allergen, cold air, exercise, or emotional stress. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, which respond to bronchodilators.
Is it possible to have asthma and not respond at all to rescue inhaler albuterol? My daughter gets a nagging cough and has questionable asthma.....the doctor has given her albuterol which she gets NO relief at all from. Does this mean she does not have asthma?

If she is coughing so much, or can't take a good breath she may not be getting the medicine in her lungs. She should be taking a puff and holding it in for a few seconds, then repeating it again.
Does she have a spacer with her inhaler?
definitely talk with your doc. If it is not helping, it may be something else ie. postnasal drip down the back of the throat or something else.

It's possible if the attack is bad that the albuterol won't help enough. Our son caught a nasty chest cold during the winter, and even though he was taking albuterol every 4 hours and prelone, his breaths per minute were still really high. We had to up the albuterol from 2 puffs every 4 hours to 4 puffs every 2 hours - the same amount of medication you'd get from a nebulizer.
Talk to the doctor asap and see if she is getting any relief or if there's something else to do. Or call and talk to the doctor.
