I don't know the answer here, but have a couple of ideas. First, I would assume that yes, it would have a negative effect on your respiratory system. Have you read anything about this? Google it and read the MSDS Sheet. It clearly warns of problems and I quote:

Avoid
prolonged breathing of vapors or mists. Inhalation may cause irritation, anesthetic effects (dizziness,
nausea, headache, intoxication), and respiratory system effects.

So Tom, pursue this. I think you found something that explains the cause of what you are dealing with. Keep us posted.

I think you are right. Of course, I would, wouldn't I? I went to the Office of the DAV earlier today and they are going to get things rolling. All that can happen is that it might be denied but I will be no worse off than I am now.
It would sure help with the medication costs which are pretty high.
We shall see. It will be about 6 months before a decision is rendered and another year after that for any appeals if I'm denied.

Absolutely, 100% sure it would have a major effect on your respiratory system, which can lead to multiple chemical sensitivities, which I have, from exposure to carpeting, black mold, and pesticides, harsh cleaners, etc., both at work and in the home. I cannot be around any chemicals now without getting very, very ill. And it all started with a severe respiratory illness that spiraled down eventually into severe anxiety and a major clinical depression that I almost died from....it lasted 2 1/2 years. I lost my job as a spec. ed. teacher, and lost my life as I knew it. I'm very ill right now with a bad case of bronchitis caused my allergens, because I'm so susceptible. I'm in my fifth week of this. Anyway, sorry, you don't need to hear my stuff. I don't know what alpha 1 is, so can't address that, but if I were you, I would find a good naturopath and get yourself detoxed as quickly as you can....do you have any problems around any other chemicals? I will be praying for you....I would also have testing done on your respiratory system because it has been a long time since the exposure, and it could be causing something that's been working there all this time and building up. And you put in a claim with the VA, I am hearing of more and more guys who are getting claims now due to all this stuff. Does not hurt to try. I sure wish you luck. I am on Social Security Disability for all the stuff I've gotten since my illness hit and wouldn't quit. The depression, anxiety, etc. was physiologically based, and I couldn't take antidepressants because I have severe reactions to medications now. Ain't life grand? I have put in a claim with the VA through the Disabled American Veterans. They will act as my advocate. My case manager seemed enthusiastic when he saw the medical records I brought in, I also brought in a copy of the MSDS report. that Rona mentioned.
It's not much but it's a start.

No, I only have the MSDS Sheet mentioned by RonaS. It mentions that prolonged inhalation to JP4 could cause chronic respiratory problems, carrdiovascular problems, liver and kidney problems and damage to the central nervous center.
I have mild kidney problems, hypertension, tremors as well as asthma. Since all of these are mentioned in the MSDS sheett, I am trying to pursue a claim. I don't expect to win though. Making a direct connection after so many years will be extremely difficult.
