Asthma Support Group
Asthma is a disease of the human respiratory system where the airways narrow, often in response to a "trigger" such as exposure to an allergen, cold air, exercise, or emotional stress. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, which respond to bronchodilators.

For a while today I've had chest tightness and soreness. I've taken extra ventolin and an extra dose of symbicort. Nothing helps. I feel a little out of breath but my peak flow is normal. There's tightness when I breathe that gets worse when I take a deep breath. Is there anything else I can try? I'm having a hot drink to see if that helps. I'm not sure if it's a cold or the signal of a even worse asthma attack.

I'm reaching here but first=did you happen to pull muscles in your back/chest? Also when I get tightness in my chest it's a sign of an infection coming on..Feel better and if you happen to have an air cleaner in an room-stay near that.

I feel exactly the same for the past few weeks. Ive used inhalers so much (ventolin, symbicort) that I've been having terrible mood swings. I'm watching this thread for a possible answer from someone. Please let me know if you feel any better

I haven't pulled any muscles as far as I know. I've been feeling better most of the day except for tonight. I think a lot it has to do with this apartment due to the poor air quality and recurrent mold problem. We're moving next year. Tonight my chest again feels tight. Maybe it's just irritation from my allergies? I have allergies all year long. I hope it's not an infection! I will keep you updated.

I don't think its an infection or a pulled muscle. I got checked by the doctor and ive no infection. I didn't take any inhalers yesterday and woke up during the night with an attack. I will take symbicort tonight but didn't take any inhaler today. its a bit of a struggle to breathe but its a good feeling not taking inhalers / steroids. Keep us posted on how you are doing. I live in a very damp area, bogland, and no hope of moving any time soon.

I suffer symptoms almost every morning and also in the afternoon and sometimes at night. I'm sorry you're suffering so much noolsq!

Well hopefully moving will help-also if you can afford it-an portable air cleaner for your bedroom helps a lot

I haven't done any exercise since last Wednesday and I can finally breathe. I usually walk my dogs in the bogland where I live and I think that may be causing my symptoms. I have only used my symbicort at night for 3 nights and I feel fine. My poor dogs are going to have to live without walks

perhaps you can find a trusting neighbor teen who will walk your dogs for you?

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but do you have allergies? I can feel downright awful with my asthma when I have an allergy attack. Candles, the outdoors, perfume, cold air, trees...you name it that will trigger it. I find Alavert D 12 to help a bunch! Ask your doctor if you are allowed to take it (its OTC but you need to show your license to buy at least in CA). Hope it helps!
