Ever since this morning my upper chest has been sore, I've felt out of breath and have had a barking cough. I've been taking extra asthma medication but it doesn't help with the chest soreness nor the barking cough. Is the barking cough part of my asthma or could it be bronchitis? I have no fever nor chills.

The only way to tell for sure is go to the Doctor, if it continues, don't wait to long and let it turn into pneumonia.

I would agree to have it checked...I would say it sounds like more of an illiness than your asthma

Barky cough could be croup or early part of asthma. Definitely good to speak with your doc or primary care.

I just went through a week and a half of hard breathing with chest congestion and had to break out my nebulizer for the first time in years.
I had a dry non productive cough and very wheezy. Had to go to Dr. and get meds prednisone and a z pak.

I'm sorry to hear you're having such a hard time broken! I hope you feel better soon! The cough went away. I hope it doesn't come back. I still have trouble mornings. If the cough comes back and lasts I will definitely go to see my doctor.

I get a barking cough whenever I have an upper respiratory infection. Feel better! I find it helps to break it up by doing a nebulizer treatment also. But change your mouthpiece more often when you are sick.

Based on what I've read, asthma and respiratory infections often go together. I always seem to develop bronchitis if I get too many irritants in the air I breathe.

I get a lot of smoke where I live, and vehicle exhaust from a nearby interstate highway. If I could move, I would.

Yes it can be asthma I had that same type barking cough for years.... i have allergic asthma and a less common t ype where th only symptom is coughing....until my asthma finally got controlled nearly 6 yearrs after diagnosis, i had that barking cough everyday and night.
i would see ur doc becuz it could be something like bronchitis, u definitely dont want this to get worse

Thankfully, the barking cough has gone away. It gets worse when my asthma attacks are severe. It's especially bad when I have a cold.
