Asperger Syndrome Support Group
Asperger syndrome - also referred to as Asperger's syndrome, Asperger's, Aspergers or just AS - is one of five neurobiological pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), and is characterized by deficiencies in social and communication skills, normal to above normal intelligence, and standard language development.

Aspergers is apparently a vogue diagnosis. Every other day I read something "new" about it; symptoms of a vast and varying nature: people saying things like "I have asperger's and so I have sleep problems", "I'm kind of like a psychopath since I have aspergers and don't feel much empathy", "my eyes go like this because I have aspergers", "I'm depressed because I have Aspergers..."
The list goes on...
If you ask me (and even if you don't) I think its just a bunch of impressionable, suggestible poseurs looking for attention or a unique identity.
Anyone else perturbed by this?

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

I am a poser. I think I may be a ________________. Now, You don't like this and you are perturbed!
"Freakin' posers, losers, probably were elves or wherewolves in a past life!"
Whatever thought goes with this thread...
Why is that? I can understand being curious about the phenomena. But why would be angry by it,,,, or by your perception of that being what is happening?
By the way, I probably AM an adolescent elf but since I haven't looked up the diagnosis yet I can't be sure...
Ha! Food for thought! Here's some more: you've been reported.
When I meet a jerk who excuses his behavior with "I must have Asperger's", I want to yell at him, because I know the effort that goes into my husband's actions to extend compassion and kindness to those around him in spite of his diagnosis.
I have also heart the "I'm so bipolar". I think people want to excuse the behavior that they could control, so they label it. They have no idea how hard people who actually own that label work to control their behavior.
I know just how you feel. But at least the people you mentioned aren't on youtube making a years-long movie invloving a false claim to AS. I know of just such a person.
Personally I have no problems with those that have self diagnosed until they say something which indicates it isn't asperger's in which case I will say something. I have no problem with people who are basically trying to find out if they have something and if that something is asperger's. The hypochodriacs I can't really help because their problem lies elsewhere. And I have little time for poseurs but little interest in investing any emotional energy in them.

I think you would have to say that there is something wrong with this person - but no idea what it might be. And let's not try and guess.
