Me and my best friend stopped talking

So me and my best friend both have Asperger's. Her case is quite the bit more severe than mine, so often I have been the more outgoing and...socially graceful one of the two. Socially, I would say she has the skills of someone about 14 or 15 years old. We are both 24. It does not help her much that while growing up she had an extremely strict and emotionally abusive father and stepmother who would shelter her from most social interactions that could have benefited her development (let me put it this way: I went with her to her first Heavy Metal concert when she was 18 years old and her dad and stepmom insisted that she had to be chaperoned...by them). As a result, she is very shy and...has no real idea how flirting or courtship even works, and she's extremely insecure about this.
Enough of the intro, let me get to the point. We went to the bar the other night to celebrate her having gotten a new job. She picked a song from the jukebox and asked the bartender to have our side of the bar with the volume turned up. Only caveat is that our voices were nearly drowned out by the sound the whole time and trying to have any sort of verbal conversation was labored.
We didn't care to have a certain conversation spoken out loud anyway, so we started sending text messages back and forth while enjoying the music...or so I thought. In the middle of me trying to respond to her, she tries to start a brand new conversation in my ear (which of course turned out to be straight up yelling, given the circumstances).
I became annoyed by this, though I tried to be patient. I asked her (probably in a sharper tone than I intended) to not yell in my ear while I am trying to text [her back]. She insisted that all she was trying to do was start up a new conversation while I was "being distracted with my phone," clearly missing the problem I was having at this point and I guess forgetting why I was even on my phone in the first place.
Awkward silence. She begins texting.
Only meaning to be playful, I raised my voice (not so that I was straight up screaming, and I was still a reasonable distance from her so that I was not yelling in her ear) and said "So I'm going to yell in your ear while you're trying to text back. Is that okay?" I was smiling, trying to just banter with her and she just continued to argue back with me using the same excuse.
I got frustrated at this point and began saying my responses to her texts out loud, which were about a guy she found attractive. I realize now that this definitely is what made her upset given her background.
She proceeded to repeatedly punching my arm. Me being stubborn, I kept giving her a taste of her own medicine until her tantrum was exhausted. After that, we just sat there in an awkward silence. Some things said here and there, but nothing entirely meaningful as she only had pictures of her phone and things like that to talk about.
I wasn't meaning to be malicious or mean to her, at all. I was only meaning to banter while getting my own point across...but I guess the only detail she was stuck on was me having started to answer the text messages out loud. Not that I don't feel like I can apologize for doing that, at all...
She became "tired" soon after that incident and we parted ways around 7 o' clock at night. Much later I sent her a message letting her know that I felt her punching my arm was unacceptable. The next morning I get a text back that was completely bizarre.
She more or less said that she wouldn't hit me if I wouldn't embarrass her the way I did, and that she already had told me that night that she had her period, so I should have seen that coming.
I tried reasoning with her that hitting people is not okay, that people have to talk out their problems and sadly, she wouldn't budge. I more or less told her that I was going to mess with her anymore, and she has not texted me since I sent her that text...on Wednesday, I think.
Can I get people's honest opinions? Am I a terrible friend? Is she wrong or right (not for hitting me, but for being angry with/ignoring me)?

I do not feel you were "a terrible friend" to her.
Sometimes other Aspies are not our best possible choice for friends. It sounds like each of you escalated in response to your sensory provocations at the bar. She wasn't able to see your shouting answers out loud as a joking comment against what she did to you.
I'm not saying either of you is in the wrong here. I'm just saying maybe you can find other friends with a little more maturity and ability for reciprocity in a relationship. It sounds like you have matured more rapidly than she has.
Because I have been her friend for about 12 years now and have had a lot of interactions with her dad and stepmom, I know for a FACT that they were overprotective of her. And not just using the concert thing as my basis. Anyway, what person in their right mind feels they have to accompany their 18-year-old to a concert? She was an adult. We were in a stadium with security and police everywhere, accompanied by me, also 18 years old at the time. She would have been fine.
But anyway, yeah, I really am contemplating just letting her go as a friend. Not because I hate her, but because she just...isn't too pleasant to hang out with anymore. I mean her act was cute and lovable when she was a kid...but we're adults now. And she still acts the same. :/ Oh, well.
Sometimes someone's feelings get hurt. (She states that she was embarrassed when you yelled.) And they don't know how to recover from that.
So they act out more. (She hit your arm because she didn't have words to express her frustration.)
Was that appropriate in a 24 year old? No.
BUT It was her birthday. She was having her period (valid or not...it added to her stress). The music was too loud to hear. She's shy and in a public bar.
And your attempts to make light of the situation (yelling back) was misread by her.
I don't know if the friendship can be repaired. But I do suggest that you find another way to get through to her other than "giving a taste of her own medicine".
Are you terrible? No
Is she terrible? No
And she probably wants her game back because she's still feeling hurt.
It IS possible to tell her that you're sorry that she was hurt, without also saying that you were wrong. She may not have the social skills to understand that yet though.
I wish you both the best. It's not easy to have social issues. At all.
The only thing that frustrates me is that I am willing to admit I am wrong and she is presently playing the victim, as if nothing she ever did was uncalled for. It's just been blown out of proportion.
She is asking me to drop the game off when she is there, even though I could just leave it with her mother if she is home (weird request for someone who is angry with me, but, okay).
Aaaaand she is being super passive-aggressive with the correspondence. Like yeah, I explained that I understood her background and I understand that I made an error by her, but she apparently took what I did/said super personal and is making it out to be like I am the biggest b**** who ever lived.
Which is ridiculous. There were plenty of instances where she's done similar things to me, I confronted her about it, she said sorry, and we let it go. Then soon as I make a mistake it's like her little world crumbles down just because I felt her reaction to what I did was super unnecessary. I don't even know, anymore.
