Asperger Syndrome Support Group
Asperger syndrome - also referred to as Asperger's syndrome, Asperger's, Aspergers or just AS - is one of five neurobiological pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), and is characterized by deficiencies in social and communication skills, normal to above normal intelligence, and standard language development.

An increasing number of people are claiming AS. Some are well-meaning, thinking they might legitimately have it, but many are just out for a pay-check, or attention.
Some of the latter category may have actually convinced themselves of their alleged autistic pathology (histrionics, hypochondriacs with a narcissistic streak, etc).
So, how can one tell? There's really no official, clean-cut way, but based on reading things from similarly ticked off people diagnosed as having AS, reading, and my own observations, these are pretty good guide lines:
1. Fake aspies are proud of having AS, real aspies wish they didn't have it.
2. Real aspies have all, or almost all, of the symptoms and associated conditions of the syndrome, and will gladly tell you about them; real aspies have only a few that they know of.
3. Fake aspies constantly remind people they have AS, and enjoy talking about it; real aspies attempt to behave as if they don't have it.
4 Fake aspies know they have AS, real aspies doubt they have it.
5.Fake aspies may habitually use their "diagnosis" to get out of unpleasant situations, or obtain special treatment; a real aspies diagnosis will always be the last thing on their minds, unless they feel it pertinent to a social situation (e.g. "I should warn you I'm diagnosed with something that could make me do something weird")
And probably others...

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

"1. Fake aspies are proud of having AS, real aspies wish they didn't have it. "
There are a number of people who are proud to be Asperger's both young and old. It's the same as many other disabilities and indeed all minority groups that feel discriminated against. Naturally some people will hide it, others will be "loud and proud". Hooray for them - they are the people who are actually trying to do something for the rest of them. There are some on this board. Are you trying to tell us they are fake?
"2. Real aspies have all, or almost all, of the symptoms and associated conditions of the syndrome, and will gladly tell you about them; real aspies have only a few that they know of. "
ok, tell me where did you get your license as a psychiatrist? How many ASD people have you seen and diagnosed?
If you look far enough there is a school of thought by experts that Asperger's is not one disorder but a cluster. That means some have all the criteria, some only some and the level to which they exhibit them are varied.
Bear in mind "Asperger's Syndrome" is a man made classification. The map is not the teritory as they say. We don't have a clear physical or chemical or genetic definition of the syndrome so doctors diagnose on the basis of indirect diagnosis.
"3. Fake aspies constantly remind people they have AS, and enjoy talking about it; real aspies attempt to behave as if they don't have it. "
Again, how many aspies have you surveyed? It may be a minority but some people are open about it. That might be part of the inappropriate disclosure / inappropriate communications that is actually one of the symptoms of AS.
"4 Fake aspies know they have AS, real aspies doubt they have it."
If you've seen doctors have been continually told by others you are different then you accept it. Also many Aspie's are very accepting - I've known several that have accepted incorrect diagnoses of other disorders simply because they don't understand professionals can be wrong or have motives for giving a misdiagnosis.

Aspies are people. Some people don't like to "use" their disability others will misuse it. It's the person, not the disorder.
You've brought this up several times. It's looking like an obsession. Jung says we hate in others what we secretly have in ourselves. It's called projection of the shadow.
You might want to think about why this bothers you so much.
As for why this seems to be an obsession, I've spoken about why numerous times. So what if it is? Its a good obsession: it endeavors to uncover fakers who do not value truth or honesty, in others and especially in themselves.
Also, you're misusing the term "projection" ("the shadow" bit is only if you subscribe to Jungian theory/metaphysics, which I'm assuming you do), projection is when you project what is bad in yourself onto others when they have done nothing that warrants the characterization in effort to avoid blaming or criticizing oneself.
We've ALL done things we accuse others of being bad for, but that does not negate the fact that what the other person is doing, when they do it, is bad, and, last time I checked, raging against that in ourselves and others was a very good thing.
If you believe it's a good obsessesion to uncover Aspie "fakers" then that's your decision.
But please do not try and tell people on this board that based on your criteria they are not Asperger's or that they are fakers. That will get you reported and ultimately banned.
As you say, we will see what others say. If they respond.

depending on when diagnosed kids who legitimately have it use it as a tool to try and condone or excuse their actions, coming from the dad of an aspie.
as for my daughter goes she is sort of proud she has it or knows she has it, it explains to her her quirks so i disagree with number one
number 2 aspergers and the specturm from my research are so vast if they say they have all the symptoms and conditions do they have time to do anything else in the day. from what i have found in my research for my dughter there are alot of other illnesses that can be misconstrued as aspergers and alot of different condtions combined can give the impression of aspergers.
number 3 my daughter has started using it as a tool to try and condone some of her actions using it as her excuse so.
number 4 my daughter does not nor has ever truely known whats wrong with her, she often gets frustrated and tells me or asks me for help cause she does not understand why she is like she is. so i cant comment on 4
number 5 my 12 year old uses on a daily basis after beign treated for 4 years so tht does nto make her fake simply trying to circumvent issues,
not trying to say poster is wrong but i have been on this site for years when i first came on i did not know what was wrong with my daughter, just that there was something more to it that simple ADHD. she is 12 and wont get diagnosed with anythign else but her p doctor, her counselors and anyone who knows her feels there are some mood disorder bipolar tendencies but she wont get diagnosed or treated with due to her age.
point is, no matter what people are looking or answers and sometimes we pick what we feel fits, along time ago, i posted in a forum about my daughter and her condtion and what my opinion was, and i got an eyeful in reading from a curiuos fish, at first i was uopset and how he told me some of the things he told me thinking how dare he come across like that, but after cwelling on what he typed to me i realized while he wasnt entirely right he made many valid poiints and things to ponder upon.
moral to my post everyone is lookign for answers on why they are like they are, so they can lay blame or try and find help. some people dont have the intestinal fortitiude to muster through with out help. nothign wrong with it if you dont, i probably should have sough help for alot of things back in my day, but i decided to muddle through and try adn deal with them on my own. while others are constantly looking for support recognition or acknowledgement to explaln things they cant figure out on their own
