Hi manda4u75, I looked into this and found out some information. Before I tell you, I must say to the DS administration that I am not recommending a specific attorney or law firm, I'm merely relaying public info.
Attorney Forrest Jackson of Chattanooga is a contingency lawyer (he gets paid only if he wins your case) specializing in Social Security disability claims. He seems to be legitimate (no complaints filed against him) and has practiced for 8 years. He also offers a free consultation to discuss your case, chances, etc.

You would be better off if you have a counselor at Voc Rehab or a mental health therapist work on the application with you. Be thorough, get correct names and dates, and give lots of concrete details rather than sweeping generalizations.

You'll probably do just as well, and you won't have to hand over 1/3 of the award.

In my own case, every lawyer I had asked had said I would never be granted SSDI because I did not have sufficient documentation of any kind of disability in spite of the fact that for more than one reason I obviously could no longer work. So, I made my initial application during an interview at the SS office and then went online to add a disability statement of my own. I was denied, of course, and then I talked with an appeal lawyer who agreed with all the others that I had no chance of ever being granted SSDI. After I had been hospitalized for a few days not long after that, however, that same lawyer suggested I make an appeal...and I was granted SSDI right there in that hearing after presenting additional evidence of my own that the lawyer had said would not be necessary, useful or helpful.

My point: Each case seems to be decided upon its own merit as subject to the considerations of the specific judge hearing it and lawyers are mere clerks along the way.
