Hi everybody, I hope you will all pardon me for jumping in on a discussion before formally introducing myself to the group. I recently found out that I have Asperger's (which explained a LOT) and went surfing on the Internet and came across this group. ShineHowl's post drew me in.
So, a little about me. I've made my profile available to group members. Outside of that, I can say I strongly identify with Temple Grandin's writings and her logical style. It's easier for me to express myself through the written word than verbally. When I'm in a conversation, I feel like I'm being bombarded with input from the other person and it gets hard to put my thoughts together.
I'm hoping this discussion group will be a place I can communicate with others who share some of the same issues - communicating, sensory sensitivities, etc. One thing I'm especially challenged with interpreting other people's thoughts and motives.
Well, that's me. I hope I'll be able to fit in and be a contributing member of this group.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

I'm on the spectrum but don't fully meet the criteria for asperger's - mind you I got my assessment in my 50s so I may have simply adapted.
I don't think asking people who don't have asperger's what to think or how to behave really works because they do not experience the world as we do.
I think of asperger's as being left handed. It's different, not wrong. But it presents problems in a world that is predominately right handed.
You don't get far if you are left handed trying to do things the right handed way - you have to find your own or sometimes go out and get special tools.
Probably the least useful option is asking a right handed person how to complete a task if you are left handed.
