Asperger Syndrome Support Group
Asperger syndrome - also referred to as Asperger's syndrome, Asperger's, Aspergers or just AS - is one of five neurobiological pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), and is characterized by deficiencies in social and communication skills, normal to above normal intelligence, and standard language development.
I try to avoid them whenever I can and pick the times that I actually need to make a connection. Like business or a girl...(ha, ha)
My quirkiness usually comes out later, whether I act normal or not.
Without knowing the premise of why you have to be the first one to meet or why it has to be in the case of just you two haning out.
I think anbyody would be very anxious (I think of the "Wedding Crashers" or "Meet the Parents", both shows the anixety over meeting knew people, if you're not makeing superficial connections).
But it's harder when the meeting is for good measures - in that it's a familial thing - and that your sister - family - had set it up.
1. Try imaginning and thinking out how the meet would go in your mind. kinda like social scripts but instead of a canned version, what would normally happen to you. Then do some troubleshooting and find out how you could do it differently in this imaginative scenario. You could also come up with some activities to do if the meet was for longer than an hour.
2. Be yourself, be transparent and be hones. Don't act any different. Note: Don't say any secrets or more than you have to.
3. Don't talk about yourself. Have some questions ahead of time so you can be busy hearing about him, rather than talking about yourself. That will be a plus for your sister, if you know what he's doing in life.
4. Make sure you have a drink, as sometimes that calms me down. Maybe one for him too and some snacks.
5. Chit-chat at a restaurant where there may be TV's, if having drinks or snacks is prohibitive.
That's all I have. Remember calm yourself down before meeting and be yourself.
