Making and keeping a friend seems near impossible for me. Everytime I think I've found a friend I can be myself with the friendship ends. I seem to scare em off. My tendency to be needy/clingy and vulnerable I guess drives em away. 55 yrs of trying to make friends has worn me out. Doesn't seem worth it to me. Looks like that's my destiny, to be a hermit. Blowed if I can connect with people for more than one hour. Last person was an aspie as well.

You know, I understand just how you feel. I'm 60 and recently discovered that I too have Aspergers. To be honest most of my life seems to have been spent in a vacuum. I am fortunate that I have two friends who I can trust, but I still feel that there is a huge gap between us, even though they are aware of my condition. I know that they would support me if only I could reach out to say "hey I'm hurting" but I find that so hard to do. I don't really understand why.

I'm personally going through a bad time at the moment, which is why I came online looking for help. Perhaps we can share some thoughts, and see if we can help each other.

Mate, thanks for your reply. Feel for you. Hurts eh. My diagnosis made my life make sense. I've let my diagnosis be known to my brother. Have him a reason for my behaviour. Strangely enough it's freeing to so call 'come out of the closet' regarding my Aspergers. Wishing you all the best for your journey.
