Daughter's Aspergers causing loss of identity

Most of our daughters life has been spent dealing with her challenging behaviours, & as she's gotten older, since about five it's been been with mostly her aggression, resentment, negativity & lack of concern about following normal social & household rules. She's 14 now & a lot better now that she's on an autism medication, but dealing with this on our own all these years, I haven't had time for my self, my hobbies or interests, friends or anything else except work & home. I can't remember what I was like or who I was as an individual before this became my life. Some times I think I've lost my sense of humour & have forgotten how to be happy, have fun or laugh & recently the thought of being a failure as a mother even though I know its not our fault & the loss of the hopes & dreams I had for her reduces me to tears. Has anybody else felt this way? How do I deal with this?

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

You might also look into getting some help for depression. I was deep in a depression when I realized what I had done to myself for the sake of my family. Getting on some meds helped so much. It was hard to admit that I needed the meds, but in the long run it was better for myself and my family.
God is always there if you need someone to talk too! He can help you. He's made a huge difference in my life.
You can message me anytime if you need to vent to someone who understands.
My advice, and I really hope you will take it, is to get counseling. It will help you understand and untangle the emotions you're going through and what you can do about it. Sometimes it helped me just to be able to talk to somebody about it who didn't have a personal stake in it, too.
Asperger's/autism is not the end of the world, nor is it the end of your own identity. It will change the road you and your family are on - some things will be easier, others harder. Is your daughter getting counseling? It helped both my sons and it also helped our relationships.
Hope today is a better day for you and that this helps. Hugs...
Hummingbyrd, Powerful meds, if you're daughter's on one of them, please be careful and watch for side effects. My friends's son is on Risperidal for seizures, and doing fine on it.
She didn't ask about that anyway.
