hell no. but this may not be typical. I have ptsd from growing up with them

I feel the emotional bit is one thing most of us aspies do find hard to deal with. I had huge problems before being insercurities and lack of confidence in myself, that coursed internal confussion.

I think at times we can be very emotionally confusing for the norm! (if there is a norm!) as we can seem distance and to others they can feel rejected, I think we just need our own space and thoughts at times, and its letting others know that.

But us adults have usually spent a life time of being told we are wrong and need to change, its no surprise some of us grow up feeling frustrated and confused, we are not wrong, we just see and think a little differently from others.

I always felt like I musta' been an alien baby left on the door step. I love my mom and know that she loves me but she is somewhat distant. Father died a "gutter drunk". But like Alz says, I think that part of the distance thing was because my behavior and the lack of understanding. Maybe there's hope for getting closer now that I'm aware?

My husband (aspie) is very distant with his parents. He has often said that he doesn't care if he never talks to them again and what bad parents they were. I don't know how he felt when he was young. He says that he has blocked alot of his childhood out.

My older daughter (aspie) and I seem really close. However, she has not bonded as much to her dad or to her grandma who watches her after school.

I really hate the fact that I never feel completely comfortable with myself. In grade school I found it so hard to make friends. They all thoght I was strange, and I didn't know why. I still don't know why. I didn't make any uncontrollable movements or anything, I was really good to make an effort about that. So why don't people seem to get me? Sometimes even my parents don't get me. I just need to know so I can help myself, or something.

I'm a parent with a child with Asperger's....I feel as though I have bonded with my son, but I can't say that he has bonded with me and am not sure he'll ever do so. Its so much easier with my other 5 children, thier all so loving and affectionate. With Dylan's "space issue" its very difficult to get into his personal space and when I try to physically show him affection with a hug, kiss or even a pat on the shoulder he pushes me away and sometimes even hits me, so I have learned to show him my love and affection for him with my words....I hope one day he bonds with me as well...it saddens me greatly to think he may never have the abilty to, but I'll just continue on showing him how much he is loved :)

i never really had a bond with my pairents, they could proberbly see i was difforent but didnt know what was difforent about me, and 15-20yrs ago when i was at school being an aspie wasnt as well known or diagnosed as easily

Hi Susanbeth71: If Dylan is anything like me, he knows you love him. Although I had a hard time with affection (receiving and giving) and did not put much credence into words (I love you etc.), I knew my parents loved me through their actions. Dylan may be thinking, why the neeed for all the hugging and telling me that I love you, when I already know you do. I acknowledge that my response does not assist much in forming the emotional bond you so long for. But don't loose complete hope, as he may be able to take some small steps in this regard in the future, as I know I have taken some tiny steps of my own.
