Asperger syndrome - also referred to as Asperger's syndrome, Asperger's, Aspergers or just AS - is one of five neurobiological pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), and is characterized by deficiencies in social and communication skills, normal to above normal intelligence, and standard language development.
My 10-year-old son resorts to behaving like a baby when he is having internal issues. I am not sure if it is overstimulation, or not enough when he does this. He will talk with a baby voice and and curl up and flap his hands playfully like a baby. He has done this since he turned 6. We used to think he did it for attention because he thought it was cute. We see now that it is one of his quirks or stims. Ignoring it does not help, he seems to get some internal payback when he does it. How can we help him to stop doing this? It is very disturbing and annoying to others and causes other kids to make fun of him. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of behavior?
Every Morning when Timmy wakes up I hear "PUPPY WUPS SQUEELS" at a VERY LOUD OCTIVE!!!!!!! or "puppies are SWEEEEET!!!!" UGH...... the story behind that being, our Boxers had puppies 4 YEARS AGO..... and we used to say awwwww aren't the puppies sweet???? BIG MISTAKE 4 years later... yep STILL hearing it...we no longer have PUPPIES... DAZY is now 10 and Digger is 5.... nope NO PUPPIES here..... but still the yelling about it, until his medication sets in then he tends to CALM DOWN......
I think he does this to PLUCK my nerves because he ONLY acts like this WITH ME!!!!! When I say something to him about this behavior he will look at me and say "WHAT????? I was just being SWEEETTTTT!" ugh.... it has become a REAL joke with the other 2 children I have, when my daughter comes to visit, she will walk up and whisper in my ear "Mommy you are just SOOOO SWEEEETTTT"....... makes my skin crawl... but she thinks it is HILARIOUS..... basically because she doesn't live with it ANYMORE!!!!!!
Trust me your son will over come this Behavior.... and Probably start doing something else that you do not understand WHY he is doing...... such as shutting a door 3 times before he actually walks away...... :) or washing his hands CONSTANTLY......
I am not a overly Religous person..... but after my husband near fatal motorcycle accident I had a Aunt tell my "LynDee no matter WHAT life throws at you, GOD doesn't give you what you CAN'T HANDLE"..... I live by that now..... when things get too rough and I am at my BREAKING POINT I relive these words or call my Aunt and have her repete herself.......
