Asperger Syndrome Support Group
Asperger syndrome - also referred to as Asperger's syndrome, Asperger's, Aspergers or just AS - is one of five neurobiological pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), and is characterized by deficiencies in social and communication skills, normal to above normal intelligence, and standard language development.

I very much like the idea of a second group, for those that are affected, but not afflicted, by Aspergers. I am very much for the idea of being able to speak freely, without judgment...for both groups of people! I created a group for this purpose. I hope that family members, siblings, and spouses take advantage of it. I will NOT, tho, allow it to become a free-for-all and a bashing site. I will be used as a learning tool only!

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

I have a dear friend who has AS and learning and understanding each other helps us both become better people. Individuals with AS are who they are--they can't just change. As NTs, we ( me included) still expect them to act or react the way we think they are supposed to be according to our NT world. Even though we are aware of their "differences"--we still have our expectations. Maybe that is what is frustrating for people with AS. This group should acknowledge our differences in a positive gentle way--without the need for improvement or change.
I am not here to judge or be critical of anyone--I am here to listen to people sharing their experiences--whether they are AS or NT. Everyone should be relevant as long as they are coming from a good place. I do respect the reason for a second group--but looking at the big picture--I want to hear the opinions and responses of individuals with AS just as much as NTs. We are both relevant.
Again, I am coming from a good place--not trying to be offensive, it is only my opinion. Thanks for letting me share.
DS are not going to split the main board.

No, that's not it. My thread explains it I think.
As you said, you "want to hear the opinions and responses of individuals with AS just as much as NTs". That is why I have also remained a member of this site group as well. As I have said a million times, I think that there are NO better people to learn from than those who live with AS on a personal level everyday. I said that once in here and was attacked/accused of seeing those with AS as "guinea pigs" or "lab rats". I did NOT mean it that way, not at all! I just want to know as much as I can, I want to be able to speak freely and ask uncomfortable questions...hence the second group. I imagine those with AS might like a group where they can speak very freely (not trying to speak for others, just a thought), and I know that I've already appreciated the second group immensely in the last few days. It feels great to speak so openly with other parents. I mean absolutely no disrespect, but my experience as a parent is different than the experience as those who have an AS partner, the experiences of as AS individual are different from mine. This group is great for me to read, as I have...but it's also wonderful to know that I have a place to turn to as a parent, when I have a question to ask, when I have something I want to vent about, when I want opinions...and know that there will not be the backlash that I may get here. Yes, we are both "relevant"...but we may not always be able to discuss everything together as a group.
My intent, as I've said over and over again, is not to be disrespectful to anybody and if anybody perceives anything I said as such, I sincerely apologize. I simply want to learn...bc at the end of the day, my purpose is to help my son. That is my goal.
