Is osteoarthritis much different from arthritis? Aren't they treated pretty much the same way?

i dont know for sure, ask your doctor... Over the years i'v taken different types of meds, injections, anti inflammatory's .... comforting hugs to you ..

Hi,
OA is arthritis, there are a couple of different types of arthritis; OA, is caused by wear and tear, it is treated with NSAID drugs. RA is a autoimmune disease that is treated with immune suppressing drugs, like anti malarials. Eventually both may need surgery if they get bad enough.

Osteoarthritis is cause by repetitive overloading in your joints which eventually causes your cartilage to get deteriorated and causes bone on bone friction which leads to pain. You can manage it be reducing the stress in your bone or joints by avoid excessive weight bearing. Rheumatoid arthritis is systemic which affects both sides of your body. And exactly what Jons parky stated.

arthritis is a general term used..for a disease that affects joints and osteoarthritis is a disease that leads to wear and tear of cartilage and thus painful joints.
