For a while now, I have been trying to figure out why my ankle is starting to bother me again after some really great weeks in the summer. See my problem is that sometimes I become delusional and forget that I've got one really jacked up ankle and do something really stupid that causes problems. I made the mistake of trying out those cute little shoes that are supposed to help you tone up while you walk. Yeah, I know what you're thinking. I not only tried them but I stood in line at the DMV for about an hour and a half.

Why on earth would I attempt such a feet (no pun intended)? I have no clue but I'm hoping that hobbling around for a few weeks will cure me of my need to indulge in adventures in foot wear. I just had to vent in the hopes that I will look back on this post the next time I try to take a walk on the wild side.

OH you aren't stupid...I think we all do this! We get to feeling better and then because of feeling better, we feel we can do something that we know we shouldn't do, but we feel better...only to make it worse in the following days. I do it all the time as I am a mover and a shaker, so if a piece of furniture needs to be moved or the floor needs to be mopped, I feel good, so I do it and BOY do I pay for it!

Thanks Jeanelle. That's me too. I try to do as much as possible too when I'm pain free and then pay for it later. Like dancing. I love to dance at special occassions but I know I am going to pay for it later so I try to have as much of a good time as possible.

We were able to do these things at one time!

It's like getting older, I don't feel 54...what is 54 supposed to look like or act like...I want to ride my bicycle, I want to run with the kids, then BOOM RIGHT IN MY FACE LATER THAT DAY OR THE NEXT IS THE PAIN! lol

I'm considering buying stock in thermacare bandages and salonpas. Both of them help me recover from my activities. ;)

Ok, I know the feeling. I don't want to be so farkin crippled so now and then I go try to do something. In June, we were on vacation in upstate NY, and we went fishing. I was learning to fly fish. We had a good time. On the third outing - we were in a rocky part of the river and had to stumble around a lot on the rocks. I fell in once. Oops. When we got home about 4 days later, my foot started to hurt. By the end of that week, it was really painful and I had it xray'ed. It was broken. Its still broken because it won't heal. Now, I ask you, how stupid is it to break my foot fishing? Didn't even catch a single fish either.

Years ago (more than I'd like to admit), I was a nursing student. My instructor said that we should let those with disabilities do all they could or they would just get more disabled faster. I try living that, now. My husband grumbles when I do some things so I just try them when he isn't around. The problem is that either I leave some things for him to finish (more grumbles) or I manage to feel like **** the next day.

Well, I have an update...of sorts. It turns out that while the Tone Ups were a not so great choice of foot wear, it may have not been the sole reason for my issues. Is it bad when a Dr. says "Your ankle is...well...interesting" ? I knew that it was bad but now I have a lot of work to do to keep walking. So now no more experimental tennis shoes but I can't promise I won't still dance when I feel like it. : ) By the way breaking your ankle while fishing makes for a better story than getting water skier's break trying to run to the bathroom. I have arthritis now because as a teen i got my foot caught in a door frame and could not stop the momentum in time. I am the reason why kids should not run in the house.

Was your nickname Grace? That's what my family called me, because I was always doing things like tripping over a 2"high brick edge that my dad and I built along the drive. I broke my arm.

It got to the point, because of my high pain tolerance, that if I hurt myself and I did not have pain my parents took me to the ER. Usually it was broken. If it did hurt, it was merely bruised or twisted.

I'm sure my "tomboyish" ways led to many of the aches and pains I have now. But boy did I have fun as a kid! Plus I had 5 brothers to keep up with and wouldn't let fear stop me from trying something.

"Grace" would have been a great nickname for me. You name it I tried it and I was a huge clutz. My sister and I cheered each other on as we gave ourselves concussions and other injuries from various feats of rediculousness.. If I had more brothers in the house, I am not so sure I would be here today. All of this and I was a huge clutz. I am still just as graceful today as I was as a kid. I think the ankle break was worse than when I broke my arm chasing bubbles. That time I got to be the talk of the neighborhood because I was carted away by ambulance screaming like a harpie. LOL!

I feel a lot better though my ankle is still wonky because I have really been stepping up (i'm so punny) my activities with my club and i started painting and am looking to try my hand at computer generated graphic arts. Helping others and having fun is the best medicine.
