EMG testing

Has anyone had EMG testing? The spine doctor wants me to do that for my arm this week, and I've heard it really hurts. Trying to decide whether to do it or not. Can anyone shed any light? Thanks.

Hi Vanyel.
I am not sure if it's the same as i had done, by a neurologist. H e was testing for interferance of the nerves in my arms and legs? also for response to feel like hot and cold. The tests were sometimes unpleasant but really quite ok and not long lasting. Hope this is of help. Good luck Juney

I have had 2 EMG's.One on my arms and one on my legs.It is needles stuck into your arms and electrical shocks sent through the needle..It is unpleasant for sure.Just letting you know.

I have had it done twice. Unpleasant sometimes but nothing real painful. Compared to a routine thing like a root canal it is nothing, at least for me.

I had an EMG and it was no more uncomfortable than having blood drawn. I expected alot more and was pleasantly surprised. It was on my legs and showed damage at the level of L5 on the left. Physical therapy was ordered and the pain resolved in about 8 weeks. For us with arthritis, pain is a daily occurance and anything else is less painful!
