Hello to you all -
While I don't think there's much that's done for arthritis, I've decided to ask some questions. I'm 50 plus and noticed some difficulty with one finger (right hand) locking painfully. After researching, I think it's "trigger finger". That started 3 years ago. My Mom had arthritis in her hands (not sure if anywhere else).
I now have inability to bend left ring finger; fingers stiffening; and as of today, my right thumb is hurting. What do you recommend? I'm seeing it moving into base of thumb (right hand). I work standing up and lately have pain in left hip. Not sure if that's just from standing - or another arthritic sign. Can anyone advise me please...I have no medical insurance, and VERY limited income, so running to a doctor isn't first option. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I can relate very much to what you are going through. Other than being close to parents.
I am 54 and have osteoarthritis- hands, fingers, wrists, thumbs, neck, back, knees, elbows, ankles, toes, feet, and just now starting in hips. I had trigger thumb in right thumb about 8 years ago, had surgery to repair about 7 years ago. Since then I have had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery just over 1 year ago.
I was first diagnosed with arthritis in back and hands when I was 32. My brother had just died following an airplane accident--he was a pilot. We were very close and I my grief was about unbearable. At the same time the company I had been working at for 15 years was looking to downsize and I was a target.
So I know arthritis can strike during times of emotional trauma.
I gave up taking a Rx anti-inflammatory for my arthritis due to side effects and Rheumatologist told me to take OTC Aleve. I heard a doctor on t.v. state that Aleve is the most gentle NSAID to take. I had cortizone shots when I first developed trigger thumb.
Make sure you wear really good shoes for your job. You really need to find some affordable life insurance; at our age, it is something you can't afford to be without.
My mother has arthritis also. She also has dementia and is living in assisted living facility.
Oh yeah, I also have base of thumb arthritis and have to wear CMC thumb splints. When I first developed carpal tunnel, I would wear carpal tunnel splints to bed.
I am so sorry about your parents. I do hope you can find the answers you need and that your arthritis doesn't get much worse.
