Arrhythmias Support Group
Cardiac arrhythmia is a group of conditions in which the muscle contraction of the heart is irregular or is faster or slower than normal. Some arrhythmias are life-threatening medical emergencies that can cause cardiac arrest and sudden death. Others cause aggravating symptoms, such as an awareness of a different heart beat, or palpitation, which can be annoying.

What do you all know about the effect of hormones on arrhythmias? I am 51 years old and my hormones are all over the place. I don't take any kind of hormone replacement and am trying to let nature take its course.
I have been off of amiodarone since Dec. 17th so it is definitely out of my system. I noticed that when the 6 weeks was up I had some pretty intense fluttering. It really calmed down after a week or so and has been pretty good(a few but not anything more than on the drug). Now, about three weeks later I am having a good bit of fluttering. Could it be related to a monthly cycle? What do you think?

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
Amiodarone helped me a lot. What I tried to do was weigh whether or not my immediate quailty of life was more important to me than the impending worry of the long term side effects amiodarone. My doctor never led me to believe I would always need to take it. I have been on it and off of it twice. The last time I was taken off I had to go back on because the arrythmias came right back after 6 weeks and I was feeling badly. They start you out with this large dosage (called a loading dose) and taper off how much you take. Over a period of time, my doctor decreased the dosage to about as low as you can go. I asked to decrease and take it every other day. She said we should try to go off of it again and this time increase the Beta Blocker. So far, I have done ok. I can tell a difference being off of the medication, but I don't think it is enough to warrant me going back on the medication. I was scared to death when I was first put on the medication, but if you need it and you trust your doctor... Ask if your doctor thinks you need to take the medicaiton indefinitely or will you possibly be able to come off of it.
Good luck and please let me know what you decide to do. I am certainly here for you. Remember, I have been though this.
