I have not heard of that philosophy specifically, though Dante's Inferno was all about the levels of hell set aside for particular sins. Maybe that is where your friend is getting it from.

I think that things are more complex than that. I wish that people would suffer for the evil they do in this life, but it just doesn't always happen. Some evil people never pay the consequences, and some good people never reap the benefits of being good.

Life after Death. It is not a subject I generally discuss because my opinion is that of a small minority.

Perhaps the suffering is of the form of finally and eternally understanding the pain you have caused others in your life.

Mecab.... Idk, but that would make sense to me. We have all caused pain to someone. I think we will be forgiven and it's up to the higher power to give a punishment if needed.

What I'm saying is I don't really believe in a punishment, necessarily. I do believe in an immortal soul and kind of "the truth will be revealed"

In general I try not to worry about what happens after I die because there is a good chance the answer to that is....Nothing. Although I will admit to pondering death quite a bit recently as I watch someone slip away from this existence.

The life here and now is all I can control.

It does suck that some people are horrible people and yet skip merrily through life. It is also horrible that some people with "hearts of gold" get cancer and die to early.

We can hope the bad person "gets his/hers" and the good person gets some kind of cosmic jackpot OR we can live our lives pushing back against the assholes by living well and moral and we can offer compassion to those who get the crappy luck of the draw by giving to causes that support them.

But that is just my opinion.
