Arnold-Chiari malformation, sometimes referred to as 'Chiari malformation' or ACM, is a congenital anomaly of the brain. Arnold-Chiari Malformation II occurs in almost all children born with both spina bifida and hydrocephalus, but ACM I is typically seen in children and adults without spina bifida.

I have just recently gotten diagnosed with Chiari Malformation I had no symptoms atleasr now any that made me worry. I had never heard about this until last week. It was discovered accidentally. I have been diagnosed with Prolactinoma and to diagnose it I had to get an MRI which is how they found out about the Chiari Malformation. According to the doctor i have a 7mm drop in mine. i am going next week to get my Cervical Spine MRI to see if it is affecting my spinal cord. I do have a few questions for those diagnosed with Chiari Malformation.
1. What are some of the symptoms?
2. How are some of you being treated?
3. Are there any other steps I should take?
I would really appreciate any feedback you guys can give me on this subject. Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? I am a newbie too, I was just diagnosed last month and also have a 7mm herniation- I was diagnosed after being rushed to the hosp twice in 2 days with the worst pain in the back of my skull in my life- I have seen a neurosurg twice, who is ultra-conservative and wants to just "watch" things- I have a ton of other symptoms related to the Chiari's that interfere with my daily life insomnia, always tired, ringing in my ears, feet go numb, bad neck and shoulder pain, jaw pain, blurry vision, hurts to swallow, and the list goes on!!! I saw a neurologist who started me on Topomax to prevent those massive headaches that brought me to my knees and so far, I h ave not had another one, although I still have the other symptoms daily. I wish I could just have the surgery now while Im young and "healthy", b/c In my opinion I would heal and recover quicker. It is heriditary;my aunt has it and now my 10 y/o son is going for an MRI b/c he is showing symptoms!!!! When it rains it pours!!
Know u are not crazy! there have been days this past month where I have felt helpless, and felt like there is no hope b/c this is a rare disease, but u are not alone and everyone is so nice here.
