It's not pleasant, but it does change, it does fade, and it does go away. I recommend a mild SSRI which you have to take for upwards of a month before it's any use so don't give up in the first week. Once you are being stabilised by the drug, you can sift through the emotions you experience without the anxiety and panic attacks, and you can do all the growth and changing that you needed to do.
Every new environment comes with a huge raft of stress and learning. There is no aspect of life that doesn't come with this. If you aren't prepared to opt out of the game, but wish to win it, you have to push through and out the other side.
I don't know what this generation of parents has taught their children, that has meant there have been so many shocks to be had when we hit the real world. And yes, I blame the parenting and the schooling. Not a single hard knock to be had by a soul until the real world, where there are knocks aplenty and no idea of where they're coming from or why.
Until we can keep people in bubble wrap from the cradle to the grave, it doesn't really serve anyone to be kept in bubble wrap at all. All life is growth, and all growth is shocks and pain. That's what humans are.
