Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I found a
Homeopathic formula by Hylands called "Insomnia" also helped me.
I prefer natural alternatives over prescribed treatments whenever possible.
However when anxieties or depression, or whatever the mental health issue becomes so overwhelming, whatever the root cause, known or unknown, beyond just mild cases, it is perhaps wiser to seek professional help. And this is my case.
There is always the option to get off the prescribed meds when things are more stable. And the individual can make that choice to seek holistic or natural medicine. This is the path I am on.
It isn't always easy. I have been trying to find a good alternative to help with depression and anxiety for quite some time now.
SAM-e seems to be helping with sleeping and lifting my mood.
Anxiety is still there but improving. Breathing somewhat helps.
L-tyrosine
GABA
5HTP
are also worth looking into.
keep on sharing with us Koolman. I am all for informing others of what alternatives are out there.
L-lyosine
GABA
5HTP
Are these natural as well, or drugs? I really DO NOT want to get on any meds. I drink beer and red wine occasionally, and am trying to get off them too.
It's too bad we can't unravel and forever stamp out these underlying CAUSES of anxiety!
In my case, I've always been a bit trepidous in meeting new people and making new friends. Had a wonderful family life...suppose it goes back to 4th grade in school, when a guy and his cronies began picking on me after I sucked up to them. Maybe they thought I was gay, but I was actually just trying to be buddies lol. Then women sprouted breasts, and I was NOT ready for the hormones of puberty lol.
It's L-tyrosine with at 't' it's an amino acid it is a precursor for neruotransmitters such as dopamine.
There is another amino acid L-lysine, but that is something different.
GABA is an amino acid derivative that helps with neurotransmitters.
I advise doing some googling and reading up on these.
I am not exactly great at explaining. But yeah they are naturally found in the body, but some of us are just low in certain brain chemicals. And so supplements are available. There is plenty of info on them. you may find conflicting info, some people say they don't cross the blood brain barrier, some do.
I only know that when i take L-tyrosine, it does help to calm.
The thing is you have to be careful with some of these. It is not good to take them if you already on prescribed SSRI's (serotonin re-uptake inhibitors?) Do Not take L-tyrosine if you are taking MAO inhibitor drugs.
So caution is recommended and research.
I just choose to experiment with these things, I am careful about not mixing things up and I always take the recommended dose on the bottles and not beyond that. I personally don't think they are any less trustworthy than the FDA items and drugs.
And I am not having side effects.
Oh and the school thing. No kidding. I have not many fond memories of my school days.
