Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Stress and sadness have been my constant companions these past few years (parental illnesses, the loss of my father), so I knew its cause when I was losing more and more of my beautiful hair in bushels (mostly in the shower but also when brushing) but didn't know how to stop it. Meditation, Reiki, exercise, etc. all helped keep the emotions in check most of the time, but I was still losing my hair. Thankfully, I have a lot of it, but still...
One day, in conversation, a young pregnant woman suggested, in humor, that I try prenatal vitamins since they've given her better hair than she'd ever had before. We joked around about it a bit before I put it out of my mind. Months later, I found myself in the vitamin aisle at Whole Foods and remembered the conversation. I checked out prenatal vitamins, read the label, and thought it couldn't hurt to try.
I can't recall how long it took, but it didn't take more than a few weeks until, one day, I happened to notice that I hadn't been losing much hair anymore and it's looking shinier/healthier...and my nails had gotten stronger and longer as well. With my stress level still very high and no lifestyle changes or such, it had to be the vitamins.
What I take is "Complete Prenatal System...Bio-Balanced System...Food-Based Multivitamin," 100% natural, by Rainbow Light Nutritional Systems. I started out taking the recommended dosage (two tablets three times per day or three tablets twice daily) but now only take just one per day, sometimes two if I haven't been eating right for a day or two. I have no connection to nor financial interest in this company. I'm sure other manufacturers provide equally good products. Hopefully this information helps others!
Stress and anxiety can indeed result in hair loss. However, health issues, diet, and genetics play a part as well......so does care of the hair.
I have read that you had your thyroid health evaluated and all is well there. However, are you diabetic or on any medication that may cause fall out? I'm assuming not....so let's move on.
You stated you are eating healthier. How long have you eaten healthier? Are you sure you are getting all your vitamins in through diet.....if not.....supplements are good, but make sure you are getting the right ones and the correct amount. Most folks fall short on Magnesium. Sometimes your body will not assimilate them correctly if you are short on Vitamin D. Are you consuming soda? If so, that is horrible for your body (even and especially diet soda). Carbonation consumed 3 hours before or after a meal chocked full of vitamins....especially calcium can NOT be absorbed in it's entirety if at all. It's best to drink water....and lot's of it as it has so many benefits....too many to mention.
Ok......eating healthier is a big plus, but it will take time to let the benefits kick in.....so give it around 3-6 months before you see a small improvement......longer for vast improvement.
You also mention your hair seems brittle with breakage. Careful with the hair ties. If your hair is long, be careful in how often you pull your hair back into a pony tail. Don't use a band with metal on it. This alone causes breakage. Use scrunchies and do short increments with the pony tails. The scalp needs to breath :)
Make sure to get your ends trimmed regularly. A blunt cut makes the hair appear thicker. It's all about illusion....even with the healthiest of hair.
I'm not a huge advocate of name brand products. I've worked with the best stylists and huge icons of specialized hair products. Everyone's hair and genes are unique. What works for one person might not work for another. If something such as Paul Mitchel is working for you....go for it. Suave works well for me, but I don't use it at work as my clients are paying for professional.
If you want to spend a ton of money, Nioxin products are held in high esteem by doctors for cancer patients and hair professionals for people with thinning hair....I'm not partial.
The other product is Minoxidil which does indeed help grow hair. However, it is a regimen you must keep up. If you stop using the product, you WILL lose what you gained and more.
This is my shiny nickels worth. Hope it helps.
I suggest meditation to reduce and or eliminate stress and anxiety....it has helped me immensely.
You do what works for you. I wish you the best :)
