Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I am anxious and it is a level 6 right now. I just got dizzy and I am now sick to my stomach. I think I am having a stroke. Answer back....You always think you are having a stroke. Do you have any other symptoms of a stroke? You are having a panic attack and they always, always go away. You are going to be okay.
Once I am through reporting, I am simply to "ride the wave" as my therapist says. She says I can also put a face on the anxiety and recognize it as a "two year" old trying to scare me. She says to talk back to it....such as..."Oh it's you again. I don't have time for you but go ahead and do your thing. You don't scare me."
I was rather skeptical that this would make a difference but it really has. I don't really have attacks that often anyway but when they have come, they aren't lasting very long and usually by the time I am through reporting; they are remarkably lesser in severety or gone entirely.
I hope you find something that works for you.
Keep working, if you are not on meds get to a good doctor, EAT RIGHT and get some exercise and water. You will get to the point I am where I can actually control the trigger, and instead of focusing on the stomach upset you will realize what is really bothering you CAUSING the stomach upset!
My counselor now says to do deep breathing, use guided imagery, think of nice, calm place you like, think about it with all 5 senses, imagine you are there. Also says to stop saying SHOULD, say I CAN I WILL I am ABLE, says should puts too much pressure on ourselves, I also drink protein shakes, like ensure, I like the chocolate ones, they are actually good.
Wish you luck!
Many times I get nauseous and this can create some diarrhea just before I eat a meal. I need to learn to relax and sometimes I don't know what exactly is causing the anxiety. To solve this problem,I try to eat something like a carb, cracker, bread, or cheese, something lite to see how my appetite is. If I can tolerate it, I may be able to eat a meal or a portion of a meal. If not, I try to eat something a little sweet to see if that will help my appetite, or, drink some gatorade by sipping on it, or try some lite yogurt that has a flavor that I like. Try to focus on what is causing the anxiety and then focus on something else. Try to reason with yourself regarding the trigger. Is this trigger something logical? Can I talk myself out of it? Can I chat with a friend,etc.. regarding how I feel? SHould I try to do something else to get my mind off of it? Meditate? See if these ideas will help! I hope that they do and that you will feel better a lot faster!
My doctor wants me to have an EGD - which is tomorrow (scared) just to make sure I don't have an ulcer, hernia etc. I am pretty confident everything will be fine but think actually having the test and "proving" it to myself will help, if that makes sense.
Good luck to you :)
