I have read the difference on webmd but can someone else explain what the difference is? Is snri more calming? ex: prozac vs cymbalta Thanks!

I was switched from an SSRI (Zoloft) to an SNRI (Effexor) and it made a huge difference for me. SNRI work really well for people who tend to go between depression and anxiety and people who have really bad physical symptoms of either. I was switched when my anxiety got so bad that I couldn't eat for a week because my IBS got so bad. The SNRI inhibits reabsorption of norephinephrine as well as serotonin so your parasympathetic nervous system doesn't engage so quickly from every stress.

SSRI affects only seratonin , SNRI affects seratonin and noepinephrine.Docs usually try at least 2 SSRIs before they go to the
SNRIs because they can increase heart rate and blood pressure since
norepinephrine affects adrenalin. For some people SNRIs will work
if the SSRIs fail to help.SSRIs and SNRIs can have very different profiles. Prozac is a very energizing SSRI , where Paxil is a very sedating SSRI .It comes down to what your trying to accomplish.
