Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Anxiety is a very hard thing to deal with. It can go away quickly or stick around for a long time, depending on how you deal with stress. For me, I've struggled with anxiety all my life. I was ok for a few years but it came back bad when my husband and I moved to a new town and bought a house. We were also planning our wedding at the time and I was super stressed.
It's been over a year since we bought the house and 6 months that we've been married. My anxiety is still a problem for me but it's starting to get better. My dr put me on effexor for it and it's helping pretty well.
Try to find things to do that will help ease your stress. I do things like read, i keep a journal and i do stretches to help loosen up my muscles.
Talking about it can help too. This is a great site and if you need to talk, I am here.
I actually had many of the symptoms that were described by 2facefax and you. Of course, I got evaluated for everything under the sun including Meniere's Disease. No one could really figure out what it was. My guess is at this point, I just needed to calm down. I had IBS activity also going on at the time, which I had a very active bowel and every time I ate, it was almost as if I had an allergic rxn and became very tired!!! Stiff muscles etc. To this day, no one has been able to figure it out, but I suspect it was stress/anxiety. I ended up getting on Lexapro which helped me alot. Was a bit tired at first but in the long run, things settled down and I got back on track. I have no idea if there is an underlying medical condition but I can say that the symptoms occurred during a period of high stress/anxiety for me.
I would be curious if you came off the Lexapro slowly or came off it right away and switched drugs?
I have not taken Ativan but I do take Xanax every once in a while to take the edge off, specially when I end up getting scared by the symptoms. I get through it by recalling the symptoms that I had before and reminding myself that it is the same thing and will go away with caring for myself and a bit of pharmaceutical help!!
Cheers
