Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
The turtleneck comparison sounds familiar. Does your throat just feel tight?
If you haven't already, you should talk to your GP and discuss possible causes, and also treatments for anxiety if you haven't started already. My physical symptoms nearly disappeared after I started treatment.
I would still mention it to the doctor next time you see him or her. They may be able to put you on anxiety medication if you're not already on it. If it's entirely anxiety medication should help cut down on the feeling.
She said, "If we can figure out a way to disconnect what the brain is telling our bodies to feel, we'd have a better handle on this anxiety, but your brain and body are connected and I know you feel what you feel, just as physically as you feel this (she tapped my arm). It's that real and I know it can be very distressing and even debilitating but everything checks out fine."
As soon as I left the ER, I felt just fine. Symptoms had vanished. It's a relief but embarrassing at the same time....and it's expensive!
Every time the chatter starts in my head and my mind directs me to some strange sensation in my body and tells me to panic, I try to remember what she said, word for word.
And, oh....Googling symptoms? My regular GP has made me "pinky swear" to stay away from Google with regard to medical symptoms of any kind. She said more often than not, they're wrong and only serve to scare the hell out of you. All Google's going to do is give you too much to think about. Go see the doc and then you'll only have what matters to think about.
That has been my experience. We're all different, I know but what you're describing sounds sooooooooo painfully familiar. It's a very unique kind of misery, dread...until you have something in your mind to counter it, you can feel so helpless.
Hope you get some answers to what your going through.
I GOOGLE too much too...but I have also talked to my Dr. about it....it can be totally unrelated to anxiety and be a type of Neuropathy....
Which will be addressed for me by a Neurologist...Its a nerve issue...damaged nerves which can be caused by many things....
You could have simply twisted your neck the wrong way and it is cutting off a nerve.
But certainly go to your Dr if it keeps up (we can't mess around when it comes to above the neck).
We have enough going on above the neck...LOL.
It is all part of the anxiety and after accepting it as such and doing deep breathing and relaxing, the symptoms subsided. How long it lasts is an individual thing.....mine lasted a few hours....sometimes all day.
I have looked into AdventurGuides threads that give free (you heard right) guide on how to rid yourself from anxiety and it has been a life saver for me. I don't go to WebMed any more....not necessary as I know I'm battling anxiety and not some horrible life threatening disease. I let my doctor be my guide.
I did find out I'm diabetic a few years ago and some of my symptoms were actually caused by the diabetes when my blood sugars drop too low or are too high. I eat a 1000 times better, exercise, and keep my blood sugars as even as possible.
I do indeed have pinched nerves in my neck, but my chiro has helped with that.
I'm truly blessed and when anxiety comes a knocking....I pop a few gumballs in my mouth. This helps distract me with the wonderful flavors filling my senses and the chewing relieves the head pressure. This doesn't happen to often these days....but every now and then anxiety raises it's ugly head....lol.
I have learned to go with it and it usually only lasts a few minutes compared to 24/7.
Look up AdventureGuides threads....she is doing a 12 week program right now. You can scroll through the threads to catch up or friend her and she will give you access to her journal where she keeps the info on ridding yourself of anxiety.
Best wishes sent your way :)
