Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
What I usually find, is that if I wait 3 days without doing or saying anything, what happens is...
1. they have totally forgotten.
2. I realise that what I did/said just wasn't that big a deal. And that it was such a good idea I had waited because I would have absolutely grovelled on the day, made a right wally of myself, and lost all possible respect of that person.
Having said that, I don't know what you said. It may have been a bit yuck, it may have been heinous. So i'd recommend the middle ground: tomorrow just say sorry. Say you were strung out. give her a get out of jail free card from your monopoly set, tell her she gets one score when she's hacked off at you one day.
And leave it there. Life goes on. She'll be on the rags one day and say something rotten to you. At that point, you can take back the get out of jail free card. You never know, this could be the beginning of a life-long friendship.
Its hard. Its not easy. But it can be done. You have to change your thoughts every time you start to overthink. You HAVE to say "No, that's just "junk thinking" and its toxic and I am not going to go there." And then you get your mind on something else.
And you repeat this 75 times if you have to until you get your mind on something else.
You will feel urges to give in and start picking away at those thoughts and wanting to analyze them and dissect them and dwell on them. But it will take you NOWHERE. One of the reasons we subconsciously do this to ourselves is because its so EASY. We are addicted to worry, and to fill that urge, we subconsciously pick things to worry about that there is nothing we can do about. We choose to worry about things that there are no answers to. I have been known to start worrying about things that happened 20 years ago in order to give myself that fix when there was nothing "real" for me to worry about.
If an alcoholic runs out of their favorite drink....they are going to start searching the cabinets for something else with alcohol. And if we don't have a "real" worry to occupy our thoughts.....we will start searching our cabinets for one that isn't so real. And we can ALWAYS find one! lol
You just have to say NO and do not allow yourself to dwell on stuff that deep down you KNOW isn't really that big of a deal to you.
