Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I think it is sort of like stage fright. We are trying to perform. The harder we try the worse it goes.
I, too, usually have 110/70 with 55-65 pulse.
I, too, feel frustrated that I can't "CONTROL" it. Yet that's also what anxiety is all about. Us trying to control everything in our lives instead of just being.
This week however I was able to get it down at the doctor's to 140/98 which it's usually 165/110 at the office. So I am getting better. I downloaded an audio hypnosis tape for white coat syndrom from www.HypnosisDownloads.com
Good Luck, Betsy
Last week i had a dear friend of over 50 yrs lose a 5-yr fight with lung cancer. I wasn't ready mentally for him to go and it triggered high anxiety which caused my BP to spike very high. The highest was around 189/79 but my pulse thanks to Atenolol was only 52. It's been going up and down between 160's/70's to normal readings of 130's and 140's over 70's and I know that it's just anxiety and adrenaline rushing but that still doesn't calm the fear--hence the never ending beast chasing his own tail (as a friend of mine put it). The answer isn't Ativan (which I have and have taken a few of) but coming to terms with why it's happening and why all of you and I, have this fear of our blood pressure rising. A physc buddy of mine recommended a book called "The Power of Now", which teaches how to calm your self and heal this battle once and for all. I've never suffered panic or anxiety before but I'm certain that I will not allow it to rule my life. Good luck to all of you and if your BP is always up, see a doctor for one of the many meds to bring it under control--its no big deal. As the first post here says--Ur not alone! good luck!
I bought a blood pressure kit a while back and check it off and on, especially after a dreaded doctor appointment. It is always normal when I am home.
I need to find a way to get over this fear. Today, I had to go to an occupational doctor because I pulled my back out at work. Great, a new doctor, that really got my blood pressure fear going. It was higher than it's ever been. I was frustrated with myself and tried to get myself to calm down, but no luck. It's like the more I try to make it go away, the worse the feelings of fear become. It's very depressing. I know there's got to be help for me some where!!!
Honestly, I thought I was the only one with this fear. I'm glad I'm not the only one, but hopeful we can all get over it!
