Q. Do you think the Depo shot messed with my hormones and is making me feel this way?
A. Yes. I think its likely because I have read posts by other women who had the Depo shot and also reported increased anxiety.
Q. What would you do if you were me?
A. I would keep treating the anxiety to the best of my ability, stop the Depo, find some other tolerable form of birth control, and try to figure out if I have some underlying physical cause for the anxiety.
Q. Should I insist that I get in to see the medical doctor that knows about the mental side of things?
A. It couldnt hurt and might help, so if you can afford it, why not?
I am presuming that your GP is a good enough doctor that he/she has been running blood and other tests to verify that there isn't something wrong with you physically? If that's the case, mental and emotional, is what we have left. You are very anxious and manic-y. Unless this therapist is able to write prescriptions, you definitely need to see a psychiatric professional. An Internist, however good they are, are not going too be as versed and up-to-date with current treatments as a psych doctor will be.
