Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. I worry about my health all the time, I have depression, Anxiety, Borderline personality disorder, ocd, pmdd, mood swings, the whole shabang and some days its just ridiculous! i get so overwhelmed. lol I hope you feel better!
Basically what is going on here is that you feel compulsions to worry. All of us do. That is pretty much at the heart of our problem. It is caused by a lifetime of negative thinking that has become such a habit that we don't know how to NOT do it. We feel like we have to be worrying about something or we don't feel normal. It is an addiction.
All of the compulsions you describe, are your way of giving yourself a "fix". They are there for a reason. They are satisfying your urge to dwell and obsess and worry. Even though obsessing and worrying drive you up the wall, you are not comfortable unless you are doing them. So worrying about your routine is how you subconsciously chose to fix the problem. It is really common, so don't feel down about yourself.
I think the other component is that trying to eliminate change from your life gives you a sense of control that you otherwise wouldn't feel. Let's face it, we all feel pretty powerless at times and I speak from experience when I say that following a ritual helps to easy my anxiety. It is a false sense of security of course, but again, it is a nice "fix" for a while. Until the next urge comes along, that is.
