I often have exactly the same kinds of panic attacks as you describe when I wake up. Sometimes, I'm afraid to fall asleep because I fear waking with a panic attack. What helps me is to try to go to bed relaxed. Also, I remind myself that if I wake up with my heart racing and feeling shaky and dizzy that I am not going to die that it is just anxiety. Instead of racing around, now I try to sit and take deep breaths and keep telling myself I am okay. I go to pet my dog or I turn on an old movie on TV until my mind is not focused on being afraid.
