Regardless of whether you try a pill or not, I agree with the others who have suggested exercise (great for depression!), eating healthy, and keeping yourself busy so that you're not "up in your head," ruminating about any problems you may have in your life. The B vitamins (especially B12) are very good for providing energy and lifting mood. I'd encourage you to be careful with other supplements, especially if you do try the medication, because there are some pills and supplements that cannot be taken together.
Above all, do keep your doctor posted on what you decide. Most doctors will understand your hesitation to try meds, and some will even let you start with a small dose (assuming you're not suicidal/self-harming) to see how you tolerate it. Good luck, and keep us posted!
