Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
My son was off the wall at that age too.
Today my son is almost 18. Great grades. Had a job for 2 years. Been a volunteer firefighter for almost 2 years.
Yup that ball of energy of yours could be fighting fires and saving lives in 20 years. Give him BIG hugs for me. The country needs plenty of kids like him.
Three, huh? Start with "reading" picture books. Make up a story about the picture. It spent have to be amazing. It can be very, Very simple. But, it gets him thinking.
Don't award him with attention when he pushes the envelope. Punishment is best. And, my mother had the best punishment: 5 min sitting and watching the other kids play. No TV to distract. No anything to distract.
It might take some will power and patience, but you will see improvement.
I looked back over old post. We were friends some time back. Please, lets be friends again. PM me...lets talk! Let me give you a place to rant!! It will help heal your psyche. I promise, me and God will work with you!
It sounds like you could use that release.
The stress was a big part of the breakdown in my marriage.
It got to the point where I thought that if my son was going to grow up to be the next school shooter that I was going to love him while I could. I basically did a 180, told the school that I didn't care.
Told my son for FOUR STRAIGHT YEARS that "school didn't count"...and THAT turned my son's life around.
Love and attachment is what it's ALL about.
I'm not saying no rules. I still had rules but they were pretty basic.
Go to your room until you've calmed down. If that's 5 seconds...it's 5 seconds. Guess what I had a kid that learned to calm himself down in 5 seconds. What "discipline" there was, was logical but mostly distraction and avoidance. If the park was an issue, we stopped going to the park for 6 months until it wasn't.
Yes, I had a younger daughter to take care of, and that meant that she didn't get to go to some things. Oh well, she got other things. Including one of the closest sibling relationships I've ever seen.
Kids that are attached to us WANT to behave. Some just take longer to learn the SKILLS than others.
We don't put kids in the corner (timeout) for not knowing their math facts anymore...it doesn't work with behavior either.
Sure some kids (like my daughter) do well with discipline. But the truth is, that they need so little of it, it really doesn't matter.
Now, like I said, he's a volunteer fireman. Has given hundreds of hours of his own time to keep the community safe. Road his bike to the station in the snow. Helped shovel out fire hydrants in the community. He's kind, respectful, and I've never, ever needed to impose a curfew...because he's never been out late (other than the firestation and that ends at midnight.)
It is hard to punish him. There will NEVER be any physical punishment with my kids, I dont care what anyone says. I try to make him sit on a chair for a few minutes, but without me standing there holding him, he wont stay, and the whole time he is hitting and kicking me. Taking toys or TV away doesnt help as he doesnt sit still long enough to worry about toys or TV anyway. There is nothing much he enjoys doing that isnt getting into stuff or doing something wrong. Occasionally he will run around the house with his brothers and laugh, or ride his bike around the house (we have a big house), but mostly he is just doing something he shouldnt be doing. I go to sit down for 5 minutes and he is off in another room and I have to get up and follow him, cause he cant be left alone for even 5 minutes. Its just so frustrating and tiring. The 3 little ones are at day care today so I have the day to myself, or to spend with my older kids. They can be demanding for my attention to, especially since the little ones take most of my attention and time. So not much alone time for this mummy. But I love being a mum.
Mary I would like to be friends again. I do find it hard sometimes to get myself to do my part in a friendship though, I think partly because of my anxiety and worrying about what others think and thinking I am just complaining to much and being a pain. But I will try again and see how I go.
