Next week I am seeing a new PC doctor because I have a new insurance. What is the best way to get this doctor to understand m anxiety issue and give me the correct medication. Antidepressants do not help. I know doctors hate to prescribe Ativan, Colopin or Xanix but these meds do work for me. I am not a medication seeker but just want the right thing. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

Really all you can do is give them a very thorough history. If you are currently taking medications then definitely take in a list. If you remember the medications you've used in the past and when then take in a list with the approximate dates and whether or not they were effective. Explain what you feel when your anxiety gets bad and if you know what your triggers are.

Hi,

I rarely post but I understand your situation as I have gone through it before. I hate my med routine but I am also unable to take antidepressants. My routine is .25 alprazolam x 3 and then .50 at night. I am always trying to get by on less...so most times I skip it at least once a day.

When I had change Dr. I was fortunate to find one who sent me to my old Psych as she recognized my anxiety needed more than a PCP after three visits. It was an HMO so I needed her referral.

Make sure you have all your old records sent with you.

Yah, doctors are real stingy when it comes to prescribing the benzos, despite how helpful they can be. I agree, just be open, honest, give them as much information as you have, and be forthcoming about your concerns.
I hope you get the cooperation you need.

Honesty has little to do with doctors prescribing benzos, due to government oversight. They have no problem with prescribing antidepressants or anti psychotic in hundreds of milligrams for years.

But tell them you want 1 mg of a benzo and you're suddenly treated like a second class citizen. Marinol, oxycoton and benzos prescriptions are watched very closely by the DEA, especially in the last few years; and doctors don't want DEA warnings on thee records.

Remember every prescription written in your name says in youprescriptionon record for life, and it can be viewed by any health carere provider, pharmacistst or government agency. You have a much better chance of getting benzos from an older doctor nearing retirement then a younger one. That's how bad it is now.
