Fast forward to more recent times. Two years ago I nearly took my life due to the Bipolar and also 7 years of terrible mis-prescription by psychiatrists. After I came out of the coma I was transferred to a psych hospital and after that stay they recommended me for a 10 week one evening a week course on the ACT and Mindfulness therapy methodology. I hadn't heard of it before.

The text that they used and which I have read through and worked on many times since is The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris - an Australian - I am an Aussie. You can get it from Amazon. The strategies in the book don't work if I have plunged into a panic attack - I have to just ride panic attacks out. But amazingly, they really DO help with intrusive thoughts. I'd give it a go, it's worked for me and I am an anxiety machine!! LOL
once we are prepared for various things, our minds don't throw those kinds of images at us anymore.
I haven't figured out a way to stop it, I just keep myself distracted with something... it's hard I know. Doens't always work...
Sorry I don't have too much advice.
Hope you feel better...
