Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I can relate to you, so here is what I have to say and hopefully you can tie something from it.
Your right, you can not make everyone happy- what a world it would be if you could! How people take your advice, thoughts or opinions is out of your control but the way that you handle the stress can be controlled by you. Although the anxiety/stress tries to tell you otherwise...
That being said, take a step back and take a deep breath. Focus on yourself instead of that other person. If a situation gives you anxiety and stresses you out, give yourself some space and allow yourself to calm down. What is something you could do that you enjoy and would keep your mind busy or distracted? Instead of making the situation about them, make it about you.
It's a constant struggle, but there are moments where I feel empowered and I tell myself to let things go. There's a voice in me that almost becomes a little angry, but in a good way. I remind myself that I cannot control what other people think and I'm just going to go on living and please myself. It helps, when I can do it.
I'll give you an example. We've had this ongoing conflict with noisy neighbors who party in their backyard all the time. After we finally called the cops, they got ticked and bad-mouthed us to the other neighbors. After all this, I would feel really self-conscious leaving the house by myself if they were outside. I would even feel timid about opening the windows if they could see me. So, one day I just thought, "screw them. I have every right to walk out of my house when I want to. They are the ones with the big problem, not me!"
I felt a lot better after I had this conversation with myself. And now, they are moving out! So that's awesome.
