Flinging a ton of adrenaline and cortisone into your system. You get so sensitised that any tiny stress will send a ton of adrenaline through your body - and they call that generalised anxiety disorder. You're so overdone with sensitivity that breathing sets you off.
And so what you really need is a time of quiet and reduced stress, to reduce the burden, process the chemicals, lower your sensitivity and begin to return to normal.
If you work: going for walks at lunch. going to bed at 7:30pm and just lying there, in bed, in the dark. Sensory deprivation. Reduction in stimulus. Reducing those events.
The noise goes down, you can start to solve issues which you can't solve when you're in a full time panic attack.
Some people will take medication. That helps too, but then you have to come off the medication. That's not so bad, it just has to be managed. What you don't want is to develop the belief that 'you can't live without this medication.'. You're going through a stage of life, and that stage can end.
