I hate yearly car inspections.

My state required, yearly car inspection, gives me more anxiety than anything else. I mean I 'd rather go skydiving than go through the 10-12 minute inspection on my 68 Mustang. Mainly because I'm afraid it will need some obscure hard to find part, or fail emissions. So I sweat for weeks worrying about failing inspection. But I always pass. Because the cars in top condition, almost like new.

The inspector only told me the motor mounts need to be replaced soon as a precaution, that's about $300.00 dollars so no big deal. My friends tell me to get antique tags on the car so it won't need a yearly inspection, but then the car can only be driven during daylight hours. Then my GF is constantly on my case to trade it in for a new car! Yeah right. I've only had the car for 36 years.

So, anyway, I just got back from the inspection station, and it passed. In an hour or two I'll go to the DMV and get my new stickers, because my tags expire in four days.

Anyone else worry about car inspection?

I could see how that would be nerve racking, we all have something in our lives that makes us feel anxious. For example I have to go on a class trip with my son's 2nd grade class on June 2nd and I am feeling anxious about having to do that but once it's done I'm sure I will be like "I don't know why I was so anxious it was no big deal." We always seem to imagine the worst happening and usually it is the opposite that happens.

Yup. We over analyze every situation, scenario and circumstance. Then when we can't find anything to worry about, we worry why we're not worrying..lol

I'v never heard of yearly car inspection. Here in California we have smog inspections you have to do every two years, and that is a pain in the ass. My check engine light was on for almost two years and that is an automatic fail when that light is on, anyway one day it just went off and I hurried to the smog/mechanic building to hurry and try to pass smog luckily It passed, but now my light is on again. So here we go again. Oh, and if you don't pass smog it costs a lot of money to find the problem. What a pain!! But I feel ya!

The purpose of a check engine light is to assist a mechanic in diagnosing a problem and informing the owner of a problem, or potential problem, before they're left stranded.

Once the check engine light comes on, a trouble code is stored in the cars computer, so the mechanic only needs to read the trouble code to diagnose the problem. But your right in that a car repair can still be expensive. But, the check engine light will help alleviate trouble shooting and therefore labor costs somewhat.

I had a 2002 Lexus IS that had a perennial check engine light that would come on every three months. I took the car to three different dealers and none of them could diagnose the EVAP problem, and prevent it from happening again. So I know what you mean.
