Also decide what you want to get out of therapy. This will help in setting a plan up of direction for you and the therapist, otherwise they are batting blind, and it will take longer to get the focus sorted.
Here is where the journals you keep here help. You can keep them private but anxiety can be fueled by being overwhelmed by experiences. So writing out how you feel and react to things during each day will maybe show a pattern of experiences that cause your anxiety to rise, and ease. This is not always describable in the moment since once in an anxious reaction, not much else can be thought about.
Ex. for me loud noises, and slamming doors are a big element that kicks in my anxiety. I know I am not in harms way, but my reaction are previously programmed that way. In the moment I am vigilant, jumpy and not able to concentrate. I stare at people talking, while trying to figure out what they are saying, then what am I supposed to do? or did they just say Hi, have a nice day. Later when calmed I can maybe pinpoint what was the inciting trigger.
Therapist guide, they only can work with what you give them. Getting you GP and therapist on the same page helps, since that upset stomach may not be the flu, but a reaction to anxiety. Fixing the symptom without knowing the source is masking what you need to know.
