has anyone taken effexor with success? please only success stories!

ive been on sertaline for 10 years and had a setback once i tapered down from 200 to 50. I've been back on 200 now for exactly 12 weeks and am only 85%. i should be at 100% by now so my doc suggested to try effexor xr bc it works on two chemicals and may help bridge that 15% gap. FINGERS CROSSED.

But i'm nervous bc ive never taken anything aside from sertraline and bc i've only been at my current job for 4 months and things are really busy so i'm scared to try somethign new and go through all the start up side effects. the start up effects on sertraline for me were heightened anxiety and insomnia. i'm sleeping so well now and am afraid for that again:( .

thoughts? advice?

I was on Effexor 11 years ago when my daughter was very ill. It was a godsend. I hope it helps you!!

I have been on Effexor XR for several years. Here is the breakdown:
Pros: Helps very well, immediate relief within the morning after your first dose (Take at night)

Cons: High feeling with vivid and sometimes bad dreams for first 3 weeks. Sweating 3 weeks. Don't suddenly stop or the 3 weeks symptoms start all over.

I love my Effexor XR. Yes the side effects suck but after 3 weeks that will end and it works right away.

I started Effexor a little over a month ago. When I started it I felt weird and then i started getting super depressed. Depression wasn't even a symptom i had before, I started it because of my anxiety. Like I couldn't get out of bed and my family, friends, and boyfriend saw a huge change in me. I was not myself and it was awful. It got so bad that i had to make an emergency call to psychologist and she decided to bump up my milligrams. After she did this I was 10 times better and my depression and anxiety was soooo much better. So my advice is if you do start it give it time, and if you get the depressive symptoms DO NOT wait like I did. Call your doctor right away and get your prescription raised. this is just a weird drug that the higher the dose the better it works. Hope this helps! :)

it truly makes such a difference to hear positive stories from ppl!
i have depression and anxiety but not for any reason I know of. it runs in my family and i seem to be predisposed to it, so sometimes life changes (even if thy are good ones) trigger it.

i dont mind side effects liek sweating or vivid dreams---i just am fearful about getting more depressed as a side effect:(

anywho, i'm going to give it a shot soon. Was thinking of giving the zoloft at least a few more weeks first.

i started effexer about 4 months ago and they finally put me on the highest dose and it seems to be working well, i have agoraphobia and today was able to go for a nice walk.
