Also I have had many abcess's and sometimes the swelling does not go down for about a week depending on how bad he infection was. Usually an antibiotic does not reduce the inflammation so I take either what the dentist prescribed me for pain or else IBU.
Also applying an ice pack on the cheek for about 20 minutes helps a lot with the swelling. Anyway it is perfectly normal for the swelling to last up to a week so hang in there and I hope you feel better very soon those darn things are painful:)
One didn't hurt until a few hours before I had a root canal.
One morning I woke up with a swollen cheek. When the endodontist got in there, he found red hot nerves. When he started digging around cleaning out the roots, he couldn't give me enough anesthetic to keep me calm.
One gave me excrutiating pain that wouldn't let up or respond to anti-inflammatory pain relievers. I was at the office when it opened the next morning for an emergency extraction.
I never had time to take antibiotics for an absessed tooth. It must help. I understand that antibiotics can take a couple days or so to kick in. Hang in there and rest up. Are you doing anything to reduce the inflammation? Listen to some soothing music.
Best wishes
