Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Ativan, Loarazapam, Clonazapam, Alprazalam(I think it is xanax), prozac, welbutrin(gave me hives), zoloft/sertraline, effexor/venlafaxine, risperidone, seriqual(gave me cramps), that is all I can think of at the moment.
I hate being drug resistant. Since I am drug resistant I am currently taking four mess at verging doses and working with my doctor to get of some of my medication. I do not think I could say what drug works best for me but I can certainly tell when I miss a dose of any of my medications.

I refuse to take something daily and I make sure to do all of my preventative measures against anxiety......getting enough sleep, moderation with alcohol & caffeine, daily exercise. BUT I do take 1/2 .25 mg Xanax as needed. I havent taken one in over a month but some months I will take it once a week. I make sure to only take it twice a week for fear of addiction
I think the best medicine for me, over the long term, has been taking the fear out of my symptoms. When I learned that anxiety was very much of my own making, I learned to just let it pass rather than fight it. Fighting it was a losing battle and seemed to just feed more energy into it. If you can simply take the fear out of your symptoms and not fight them, you will learn how to simply ride the wave to the shore and then let the wave 'ebb' away. The next time anxiety attacks, it won't seem so frightful. Eventually, anxiety will subside until it becomes an unpleasant memory. Check out the link above for an example of what I'm trying to say here.
Regarding medications: It is always much easier to learn coping tools like I've just described when we are calm and objective than when we are in crisis. If you find a medication that achieves the necessary calm, that is the first step to learning and practicing some coping tools.
Over the long term, however, depending solely on medications is damaging to the body and the brain, and all benzodiazepines: xanax, klonapin ativan, etc, are addictive. If you don't like anxiety and depression, you will really hate withdrawal symptoms. Trust me . . . they're UGLY! So use your meds only as needed and always be conscious about the importance of NOT DEPENDING on them. While benefiting from your medications, use this time when you're calm and grounded to be proactive about learning where your symptoms come from and practicing new thought processes which will stop those symptoms. You will be surprised at how soon your symptoms begin to fade away and the need for chemicals diminish.
